AFO 468 – Exchange collections: return and remove

468.1 Introduction[//]

For libraries with rotating collections from 'foreign' systems, the system can read records from the foreign systems and integrate these into the system's own catalog, where they are treated as 'owned' items, and later delete them again. The option is operational for libraries that receive rotating collections from the Provincial Library Center for Northern Brabant.

The libraries receive a diskette with the rotating collections on which files are stored with the copy information and the relevant bibliographic descriptions for the items in the rotating collections. These records are entered in a background file using a procedure that is the same as the weekly AI processing. After the file has been entered, the items in the rotating collection can be individually included in the library's own collection (the production file) using AFO 468. From that point on, these items are available for library transactions. Inclusion in the library's own collection means that the items are assigned a nature and a call number, among others. When the items are to be returned after a period of time, the system can delete the items from the catalog using AFO 468.

Please note!

This AFO is not intended for general use and will only be installed in highly specific circumstances.
